tracert.exe TCP/IP Traceroute Command

tracert.exe TCP/IP Traceroute Command -belongs to the Microsoft Windows Operating System program from Microsoft. This is not just a command but working program. Windows application designed to find the path by which network packets are sent from one node to another. Also, this means that you can always find TRACERT.exe in the “SYSTEM32” folder. So, this is not a virus.

If you have problems with Internet and, call support team, they may ask you to use command “tracert” to find where is problem. The tracert command is used to visually see a network packet being sent and received and the amount of hops required for that packet to get to its destination.

Tracing is used as one of the tools for the complex  diagnosis of network failures. So, with its help you can understand:

  1. At what level is the blocking of the unavailable web resource:

– at the home network level (packets are not sent beyond the gateway)

– in the provider’s network or outside it;

  1. Where the packages are going in wrong

For example, the reason for opening an advertisement page instead of the requested site may be a malicious program on the user’s computer, and redirection from any network node;

– if the web resource is really what it claim for.

If you receive tracert.exe error when you try to run software or Windows system may have some problems. There are many things that cause this tracert.exe error.

  • tracert.exe file was deleted when another program was uninstalled from your computer;
  • A new version of tracert.exe file installed by another program is overwritten and is not compatible with other programs giving tracert.exe error;
  • The tracert.exe file was deliberately or mistakenly deleted by another computer user or program;
  • The registry entries of tracert.exe file are corrupted.

Also in Winx64 system it can known as tracert.exe TCP/IP Traceroute Command (32-bit).

How to use:

tracert [-d] [-h maximum_hops] [-j host-list] [-w timeout] [-R] [-S srcaddr] [-4] [-6] target_name

Options:
  • -d Do not resolve addresses to hostnames.
  • -h maximum_hops Maximum number of hops to search for target.
  • -j host-list Loose source route along host-list (IPv4-only).
  • -w timeout Wait timeout milliseconds for each reply.
  • -R Trace round-trip path (IPv6-only).
  • -S srcaddr Source address to use (IPv6-only).
  • -4 Force using IPv4.
  • -6 Force using IPv6.

Also you can see sometimes:
Unable to resolve target system name %1.
Unable to contact IP driver. Error code %1!d!.
Transmit error: code %1!lu!.
Invalid source route specified.
One of the IP options is invalid.
Bad value for option %1.
%1 is not a valid source route address.
Too many options have been specified.
Unable to create socket, error code %1!d!.
The option %1 is only supported for %2.
